Course Overview The BSc (Hons) Health & Social Science degree is aimed at students who have a broad interest in health and the social sciences but who do not wish to specialise in a single area. The degree is underpinned by a core programme in health, wellbeing, a community sport focus, sociology and social policy. A feature of this degree is the second year work-related learning module, in which students develop their employability skills. The degree enables students to explore health & social sciences while also gaining valuable insight into the world of work, leadership and team working. Throughout the course, students are exposed to a variety of summative and formative assessments while developing the academic skills to be a successful university student. Assessments include written courseworks, presentations and exams. Note: PSC Global Study is not currently accepting new applications for this course. If you do not meet the minimum requirements for the three-year programme, or do not feel fully prepared for a Level 4 course, this four-year programme with a Foundation Year could be right for you. Application based on previous qualifications: applicants will usually have achieved a minimum of 90 credits from a Level 3 qualification such as A Levels or BTECs. Mature learners (aged 21+) without these qualifications may apply via assessment-based entry, which considers relevant work, voluntary and life experience. This route requires: • Supporting documents — valid ID, personal statement, proof of address dated within the last three months • A SAPE Assessment (Screening for Accreditation of Prior Experience) • An interview • Additional documents where relevant For applicants from non-majority English speaking countries, an overall IELTS score of 6.0 is expected (5.5 for mature learners), with no less than 5.5 in each individual element. How You Will Be Assessed Assessment is through presentations, written assignments and exams. Assignments are provided by the awarding body to ensure standardised assessment across the PSC Global Study. Career Outcomes This degree can lead to careers in the leisure, health and social sectors — in public service, non-government organisations or charities. Roles graduates typically move into include: • Health assessment officers • Exercise coordinators • Lifestyle coaches • Social policy positions • Roles in the voluntary sector, including working with people in recovery Graduates leave with core knowledge in health, wellbeing, sociology and social policy, plus a broad understanding of the wider social sciences. Volunteering through the Student Lifecycle and Student Support Services further strengthens the CV and employability skills. Typical destinations include the probation service, local government, social housing, health clubs, the sport and leisure industry, charities and social research organisations. With postgraduate training the programme also supports progression into law, community sport projects, social work, nursing and teaching. Tuition Fees For entries from August 2025: £9,535 per year.
