Personal statement: the 5 paragraphs UK admissions actually read

Admissions teams read a great many personal statements, and the first pass is fast. A clear structure is worth more than an elegant opening line.

Open with why this subject, specifically. Not why you are hard-working — why this course. The second paragraph should evidence that interest with something you have actually done: a job, a module, a book, a project.

The third and fourth paragraphs are where work experience earns its place, particularly on a non-standard entry route. Describe what you did, what it taught you, and how it connects to the course. Concrete beats enthusiastic.

Close by looking forward. What do you want the degree to lead to? Keep it specific and plausible.
